WIOA — Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act
WIOA provides a customer-focused workforce development system that helps job seekers access the tools and services they need to manage their careers, and helps employers find skilled workers — with the goal of increasing employment, job retention, earnings, and occupational-skill attainment. In Meigs County, WIOA services are provided through the OhioMeansJobs® Resource Room.
WIOA employment and training services target:
- Adults — eligible to work in the United States, age 18 or older, and (if applicable) registered for Selective Service.
- Dislocated workers — individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own.
- Youth — low-income individuals ages 16–24 who face barriers such as being basic-skills deficient, homeless, a school dropout, an ex-offender, a runaway, a foster child, or pregnant/parenting.
For employers
Meigs JFS helps employers meet the changing needs of their business by assisting with the recruitment, training, and retention of skilled workers. We can:
- Add your job openings to our weekly job leads, post them on our bulletin board, and/or post them on OhioMeansJobs.com
- Handle the application process — leave applications with our staff for potential employees to pick up and drop off until you’re ready
- Help schedule interviews and provide a space to conduct them
- Host on-site hiring events and provide pre-screened candidates
WIOA can also fund training, on and off the job, to improve the quality of your workforce.
