Cash Assistance (Ohio Works First)

Ohio Works First (OWF) provides time-limited monthly cash assistance to eligible families with children while parents work toward self-sufficiency.

OWF is Ohio's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash program. It helps families meet basic needs while building toward stable employment and independence.

Apply through Ohio Benefits

You can apply for cash assistance — along with food and medical help — online at ssp.benefits.ohio.gov, or at our office.

Do I qualify?

  • Families with at least one minor child (or a pregnant individual)
  • Typically, to qualify for cash assistance a family must meet the “gross monthly income test,” which means that their monthly income (both earned and unearned) before taxes is below a certain level. The current gross monthly income limit for a family of three is $1,111.
  • Ohio residency and valid Social Security numbers for applying members

Adults who receive OWF generally take part in work and training activities through our employment program, OhioMeansJobs–Meigs County. Our team helps connect you with job search, skills training, and the support services you need to succeed.
