Medical Assistance (Medicaid)

Medicaid provides health coverage for eligible children, families, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with disabilities in Meigs County.

Once approved for most Medicaid categories, members choose a managed care plan that coordinates their care — including doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions and more.

Apply or renew online

Apply for health coverage at ssp.benefits.ohio.gov. The system asks a few questions and directs you to the right application. For questions about Medicaid, call the Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 1-800-324-8680.

Could I be eligible?

  • Children, families and pregnant women within income guidelines
  • Older adults (age 60+) and individuals who are aged, blind or disabled
  • Individuals needing long-term care services (Nursing Facility or Home & Community-Based Waiver)

Many families qualify with a gross monthly income at or under 133% of the federal poverty level. The figures below show the monthly income limit by household size.

Household size133% of FPL (gross monthly income)
1$1,769
2$2,399
3$3,028
4$3,658
5$4,288

Income limits are updated periodically. Other Medicaid categories — including coverage for older adults and individuals who are aged, blind or disabled — use different guidelines.

Managed care

"Managed care" is the insurance that Medicaid works through. After approval you'll be assigned a plan, and you can change plans within your first 90 days or during open enrollment each November. For more detailed explanations of these programs, visit or call:

Transportation: You may also contact the agency to arrange for non-emergency transportation.

Nursing home & waiver

Medicaid can cover care in Nursing Facilities and Intermediate Care Facilities, and Home & Community-Based Services Waivers for individuals who wish to stay in their home but otherwise need that level of care. Waiver services may require an additional application and interview.

How do I apply?

If you would like to schedule an appointment (phone or face-to-face), contact Joyce Dugan at 1-740-444-7607.

What happens after I submit my application?

You will receive a checklist in the mail with the verifications needed to process your Medicaid application. If the requested verifications are not received within ten days, a second checklist will be mailed, giving you an additional ten days to provide the documents. If the required verifications are not received within 20 days, the application will be denied. If you need additional time to submit your documents, please contact Joyce Dugan at 1-740-444-7607. Please keep in mind that all Medicaid eligibility determinations must be completed within 45 days; therefore, we are unable to grant an extension beyond this timeframe.
