SOCIAL SERVICES

The service component for the Health Check,  and At-Risk Pregnancy Programs , as well as, contractual Title XX Service Agreements to provide resources to all age and income levels are provided by the Social Service unit.

Health Check is a program which provides a yearly physical medical examination for any child under the age of 18 with a medical card.  Local physicians provide this service at the request of parent.  The At-Risk Pregnancy Program assists  pregnant women who are in danger of premature birth or pregnancy complications.  The program provides  assistance with finding a physician, scheduling appointments and transportation to appointments.

Title XX of the Social Security Act provides funding to counties for local social services programs for families, children and adults.  The funds are to strengthen, restore, maintain or improve their ability to be self-supportive and independent.  These federal funds are distributed by the state, but the County Department of Job & Family Services determines what services will be available in their communities.  The primary goal of Title XX programs is to preserve families.

Meigs CDJFS has Title XX contracts with Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency for transportation for medical appointments and with the Meigs County Senior Citizens Center to provide transportation and chore services to county residents in need of assistance.  Contracts are also in place for emergency foster care with Sojourners and Milestones.  A contract is in place with the Meigs County Prosecutors Office for legal staff assistance with child protective cases.
